Reflections on the Life of Mario's Mother by Ivor Semple (Ruth's father): I only had the pleasure of meeting Mario's mother on approximately five occasions. Her frail physical experience was evident but it belied her sense of fun, character, integrity and her love for her son Mario. She was also very funny and entertaining and even with her difficulties with the English language, she was not frightened to express her views and opinions and needed no encouragement to engage in a one-to-one or group conversation. Her pacifist nature was evident and there was never any aggression in the words that she used to articulate. My only regret is that I didn't have the opportunity and the pleasure of knowing her for a greater number of years. I know Mario was extremely close to his mother and it is a loss that can never be replaced as he has lost a mother, friend, confidante, soul-mate and one who allowed him to develop his own core values and principles, even though they may have been different to her own.
