I only knew Despina for a few years but the one thing that sticks in my mind is that she always greeted everyone with a big smile. Although she didn't know a lot of English, she loved to chat, enjoyed a joke and took great pleasure in meeting people. When my granddaughter Faye was born, she acquired a third Granny who doted on her just as much as her other grannies. Despina visited when she could and was there for Faye's first two birthday parties, the most recent in March just past. Unfortunately Faye is not old enough to remember her but it will be good to show her the photos of her and Despina, on this website, when she is older. This lovely gentle lady thought Faye was the 'bees knees'. Even though she loved children and would have loved a granddaughter of her own she never put pressure on Ruth (my other daughter and Mario's wife) to have children; in fact, she accepted Ruth's decision not to have any. Despina would never impose her views on anyone. I feel sad that Faye will not get to know her when she is older. Christine Semple (Mario's mother-in-law)
